After the second round of Brazil’s presidential elections on October 25, Indigenous organizations denounced a series of violent episodes, threats, and racist attacks against Indigenous communities, especially in Mato Grosso do Sul, home to the Guarani and Kaiowá peoples.
Although the reports gained attention after the election, these episodes belong to a long history of violence rooted in territorial conflicts, racism, and rights violations. The situation underscores the urgency of protecting communities, investigating these crimes, and advancing the demarcation of Indigenous Territories.
The Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) and Aty Guasu continue to mobilize and demand answers from authorities. Share this post, follow Indigenous organizations, and support their work.

Brazil’s election gave the world hope 🌎
The defeat of the far right, allied with Trump's interests, is a victory that belongs to the Indigenous movements and communities who organized to defend their future.
But Congress has shifted to the right, extractive industries continue to advance, and large infrastructure projects threaten Indigenous territories. The challenges remain, and the work ahead of us is urgent.
Read our full blog post to learn what this election means for the Amazon and how Amazon Watch stands alongside its Indigenous partners in demanding that Brazil turn its commitments into lasting action.

With the midterms over, there’s new hope for the Amazon.
Democrats won control of the U.S. House and Senate, and when the new Congress takes office in January, lawmakers will have more power to scrutinize U.S. policies that affect the Amazon and the spending that funds them.
The Amazon is nearing a tipping point, and Indigenous peoples and defenders are facing threats every day.
This moment offers something we’ve been short on: hope.
Read the full blog at the link in our bio to see all the actions Congress can take, and how you can help keep the Amazon on the agenda.

A BIG WIN FOR THE AMAZON!
Indigenous communities defending the Xingu River Basin have won a major victory. Brazil’s Supreme Court reinstated the suspension of Canadian mining company Belo Sun’s installation license, putting a major roadblock in the way of what would be the country’s largest open-pit gold mine, in the middle of the Amazon.
For years, Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities have fought to protect their territories, rivers and ways of life from the devastating impacts of extractive industries. This ruling recognizes that Indigenous rights and environmental protections cannot be brushed aside to make way for corporate profits.
This is a powerful reminder that Indigenous resistance works. But the fight isn’t over: the suspension is provisional, and communities need continued solidarity to ensure their rights are protected and the Xingu remains free from mining.

Tonight, in a historic victory, Brazil chose the Amazon. 🌿🇧🇷 Lula’s reelection means continued protection for the world’s most biodiverse rainforest and a President that will sit at the table with Indigenous peoples. The fight goes on, but this matters. Obrigada, Brasil!
