The Identity Potluck is a recurring series that aims to understand how creatives of multicultural heritage navigate their identity. The series spotlights their understanding of representation through food. The imagery created features elements native to the creative, and how these elements impact the method in which they have reclaimed their nuanced sense of self.
The fifth edition of Identity Potluck focuses on Akshita Garud (@akshitagarud), the founder and creative director of @two_odd_ and @an_odd_experience. She is an Indian spatial designer, art director, tablescape artist, and creative director. She works in art direction for editorial content driven by storytelling, and curates experiences involving spatial design through tablescapes and installations.
The underlying theme of all Two Oddâs work is to advocate for positive change and purpose. Through their work, they narrate stories and initiate conversations about otherwise hushed topics, challenging rigid and unfair societal norms. In this round, Akshita delves into her unique perspective on amalgamating spatial and experiential design along with identity as a way to champion South-Asian representation, her journey in creating a space for her representation in arts, and her mission to bring people together by redefining experiences.

Playing with Modern nostalgia, A South Asian renaissance.
@two_odd_ and @weare.notice, The Bangle Vase is LIVE NOW WITH 200 pieces only.
ODDLY FAMILIAR, NOTICEABLY DIFFERENT.
The bangle has always just been there. On a motherâs wrist, at the bottom of a jewellery box, passed down without much thought. We chose it because nothing else holds everyday life quite like a bangle.
Bangles are a quintessential accessory in the South Asian context. They signify the different phases of a womanâs life and represent the inherent versatility of her roles. While they are both nostalgic and ubiquitous, our intention is to evoke those deep-seated emotions by presenting them in a brand-new manner.
This vase, designed to look like a stack of bangles, offers a fresh perspective on a classic cultural element. The use of stainless steel is entirely intentional. It aims to bring visibility to materials innate to our culture that were often discounted due to a persisting colonial hangover.

In all my work, I use space to narrate a story, with @two_odd_ @an_odd_experience follows a very simple formatâthere is always a theme, and every aspect of the experience ties into narrating this holistic theme. From the way one interacts with the food to the color of the tablecloth, from the material of the table to the overall engagement with the experience, every detail aligns with the theme in a highly intentional manner.
With my work, I also aim to bring visibility to my Indian roots and challenge the one-dimensional, diminishing portrayal of South Asian culture by the West.đ¤

In focus : The Menu + The Decor of the installation
Anything but subtle, anything but singular, SPICE AS SOFT POWER invites us to ask ourselves what we mean when we say âIndianâ. Presented at @softpowerfestival, this installation was a part of @berlinartweek 2026.
India.
Five letters with the power to conjure images of tigers, jungle, jasmine, heat, sun salutations, and mountains of textile, colour, and flavour.
Spicy.
Another five letters to sum it all up, right?
Perhaps youâve already thought about when you last had a good curry. Perhaps youâve broken into a light sweat at the mere idea of it. At what point did these two words become so interchangeable? At what cost?
These are just two of the questions that SPICE AS SOFT POWER asks us to dip into.
Here weâre offered two journeys: one to taste, one to smell, both to disrupt.
